The new Photograv 2.11 has just been released, with over fifty different new features that are exclusive to the 64 bit version. Let's take a look at some of the highlights! Photograv is a Free software for photo editing designed to provide an easy-to-use interface with powerful features while being equally usable on high resolution or low resolution displays. This Free software allows users to create images for print or digital presentations using dozens of image processing operations and plugins, while always maintaining full control over your artwork. It is based on the GIMP image editor and released under the GNU General Public License (GPL) Version 2 or later. It was originally written in 1994 by FreVer . With Photograv 2.11 comes a 64 bit version, released by a group of volunteers led by The Morphus Project. This new version features a number of significant changes from the older 32 bit version, including: support for high DPI displays, processing speed improvements and display rendering speed improvements. In fact, it can handle complex image processing tasks in just 1/5th the time it takes the 32 bit version! The program has been translated into German, Spanish and French. Many areas have been given considerable attention in Photograv 2.11's development cycle:Photograv is distributed as source code under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). The source code is localized in multiple languages and can be compiled for a variety of platforms including Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. It is distributed in the form of a compressed archive file (.tar.gz, .zip) that must be uncompressed to a directory on a hard drive prior to use. The program can then be launched from the command line or by double-clicking on an icon or using a launcher such as wbar or Launchy. Photograv supports all major bitmap graphics formats including PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF and BMP. Supported vector graphics formats include SVG. It can also import PDF files to convert them into JPGs or GIFs. Other import/export formats include DXF, AI, EPS, PCL and PS. It supports high resolution images with the ability to zoom in on any section of an image to increase clarity. Photograv has a large number of image processing tools including brightness/contrast adjustment, cropping, color saturation control and color balance. It includes most common image adjustments such as sharpening, posterizing or embossing. It can perform geometric transformations on an image that are quite useful for many designs including flipping images horizontally or vertically or inverting them. It also offers a number of filters that have been taken from the GIMP image editor, including blur, sharpen and edge detect. It includes an auto align feature that groups pixel locations into connected components. It allows the user to apply effects like shadowing to areas of an image using a configurable drop-down list. It also has support for basic rendering operations, including shadow effects and text rendering. According to FreVer, Photograv was written originally in 1994 by Nicolas Sémérie (aka FreVer), at university (École Centrale Paris). eccc085e13
